檻がない動物園

初めて来た神戸どうぶつ王国ですが、ここ檻がないんです。だから写真撮りに来ている人が多かった。
結構本気撮りの人が多くて、獲物がやばい人が多かったかな…望遠バズーカ砲、二刀流、超高性能カメラ…などなど。
私でも少し引くぐらいすごい…装備。

この動物園は、50～85mmぐらいがいいんじゃない？

始めてきたら装備間違える動物で、200～500mm当たりのレンズを付けてる人が多かったような気がする…たぶん何にも撮れないよ。近すぎて…。
この動物園は、動物との距離が近すぎるので、35mmとかでも大丈夫じゃないかな…。望遠1本勝負だと、重いし泣けると思う。

A Zoo Without Cages

This was my first visit to Kobe Animal Kingdom, and I was shocked—there are no cages here. That’s probably why it was packed with photographers.
I saw so many “serious” shooters with insane gear: massive bazooka-like telephoto lenses, dual-camera setups, and ultra-high-end bodies. Even for me, their equipment was a bit overwhelming…

Lens Choice for This Zoo

Honestly, I think 50mm to 85mm is the “sweet spot” for this place. If it’s your first time, it’s easy to bring the wrong gear. I saw many people struggling with 200-500mm lenses, but they probably couldn’t frame anything properly because the animals are just too close.

Since you are so close to the animals here, even a 35mm lens would work perfectly. If you come with only a heavy telephoto lens, you’ll likely end up exhausted and regretful.

鳥が多いけど、変わった動物も多い

基本鳥が多い…マニュアルは、まぁ…終わってるかも。今日はmamiya Sekor C 80mm 1.9のマニュアル。
飛んでる鳥は全滅だったけど、止まってる鳥も多い意外と撮れる。
ナマケモノとか、ハシビロコウなどあんまり動物園では見れない動物も多くて、いい大人でも楽しい動物園。
動物ってたまにジーっと見てくるときがあるんですよね…撮影してるとギョっとするのですが…あれなんだろうか。

The place is mostly full of birds. I was using my manual Mamiya Sekor C 80mm f/1.9. While capturing birds in flight was a lost cause, there were plenty of perched ones, so it actually worked out better than expected.
With animals like sloths and shoebills—creatures you don’t often see at your typical zoo—it’s the kind of place that even an adult can genuinely enjoy.
Every now and then, an animal will just stop and stare right at you. It always gives me a bit of a jolt when I’m mid-shoot. I wonder what they’re thinking at that moment?

神戸どうぶつ王国

ポートアイランドに位置する「神戸どうぶつ王国」は、単なる動物園を超えた「共生パーク」です。
天井から降り注ぐ色彩豊かな花々の下、ハシビロコウが静止し、レッサーパンダが頭上の枝を駆け抜ける。
ここには、動物を「閉じ込める」柵がほとんどありません。
同じ空間の空気を吸い、同じ光の中に身を置く。その圧倒的な距離の近さは、ファインダー越しに見る世界をより生々しく、そして美しく描き出してくれます。
雨の日でも、柔らかな拡散光が回る温室は、写真家にとって最高のスタジオに変わるはずです。

Kobe Animal Kingdom

Located on Port Island, Kobe Animal Kingdom is more than just a zoo; it’s a “coexistence park.” Beneath a ceiling draped in a vibrant cascade of flowers, Shoebills stand in stony silence while red pandas scurrying along branches right above your head.

Here, you’ll find almost no fences to “lock away” the animals. You breathe the same air and stand in the same light. This overwhelming sense of proximity brings the world through your viewfinder to life, rendering it with raw vitality and breathtaking beauty.

Even on rainy days, the greenhouses—filled with soft, diffused light—transform into the perfect studio for any photographer.
