A peaceful walk through the historic streets of Nara. Capturing the timeless beauty and quiet moments found along the way.
Minolta MC TELE ROKKOR-PF 135mmF2.8
Minolta MC TELE ROKKOR-PF 135mm F2.8
That was just the mood I was in today. I took a stroll through Nara with my Minolta 135mm—a lens that looks admittedly a bit awkward when mounted on the GFX. On this large format sensor, it behaves like a 107mm equivalent. It’s actually quite easy to handle, though I know this particular focal length isn’t exactly a crowd favorite.
Personally, I think it’s a highly recommended angle for street photography.
Despite being an old lens, I love the way it renders. It feels like it captures “Nara as it is”—it makes me think, “Ah, yes, this is Nara.”

A Bright Day at Tsubai Shopping Arcade
When the light hits this place just right, it’s unbelievably beautiful. But on cloudy or rainy days, the atmosphere turns into something closer to hell—and that’s what makes it so interesting. It’s a chaotic whirlpool where the contrast is just too extreme.

Walking with a prime lens is an experience in itself.
Even in the same familiar streets, changing the lens changes the way you shoot—it never gets old. If I were using a zoom lens, I think it would feel different. Having access to every focal length in a single session feels like a bit of a waste, in a way.
There’s something far more rewarding about walking with a fixed angle; it forces you to see a different version of the world every single time.

Naramachi Stroll: Touched by the Daily Life of the Ancient Capital
In contrast to the bustling energy of Nara Park, a gentle serenity flows through the Naramachi area. Centered around the former precincts of Gango-ji Temple, this district is dotted with charming cafes and galleries housed in beautifully preserved Machiya (traditional townhouses).
As you admire the aesthetic of the classic Machiya architecture, you can truly feel the depth of Nara—a place where the ancient and the modern coexist in harmony. It is the kind of place that invites you to take a deep, slow breath and just be.
