平城宮跡歴史公園 / Heijo Palace Site Historical Park

奈良市の中西部に位置する、今から約1300年前の奈良時代に日本の首都であった「平城京」の中心車両（宮城）跡地であり、世界文化遺産「古都奈良の文化財」の重要な構成資産です。東西約1.3キロメートル、南北約1キロメートルに及ぶ広大な敷地は、かつて天皇の住まいや政治を執り行う官衙が並んでいた聖域であり、現在は国の特別史跡として大切に保護・整備されています。
園内には、堂々たる佇まいでそびえ立つ「朱雀門」や、当時の建築技術の粋を集めて復原された白壁と朱塗りの柱が美しい「第一次大極殿」、さらには当時の庭園美を今に伝える「東院庭園」などが点在しています。また、出土品や歴史を深く学べる平城宮跡資料館や、お土産・お食事が楽しめる観光拠点「朱雀門ひろば」も整備されており、ただ広い草原を渡る風を感じながら散策するだけでも、いにしえの壮大なロマンがじんわりと五感に染み渡る場所です。

Heijo Palace Site Historical Park, located in the north-western heart of Nara City, is the sprawling, historically registered site of the imperial palace that served as the center of Japan’s ancient capital during the Nara period (710–794). Designated as a core component of Nara’s UNESCO World Heritage and a Special National Historic Site, this vast open-air field spans approximately 130 hectares, where emperors once resided and high state politics were conducted. Today, the majestic landscape features brilliantly reconstructed masterworks of ancient architecture, including the grand 朱雀門 (Suzaku Gate), the monumental 第一次大極殿 (First Daigokuden Hall) with its vermilion pillars, and the elegant 東院庭園 (East Palace Garden). Supplemented by informative exhibition spaces like the 平城宮跡資料館 (Heijo Palace Site Museum) and modern amenities at the 朱雀門ひろば (Suzaku-mon Hiroba), the park offer visitors a tranquil space where they can feel the gentle breeze and immerse themselves in the deep, romantic history of ancient Japan.
