ならまち 賑わいの家 / Naramachi Nigiwai-no-Ie

奈良市の歴史的町並み「ならまち」に位置する、大正初期（1917年）に建てられた築100年以上の美しい伝統的町家です。かつて美術商が家宅兼店舗として暮らしていた意匠がそのまま残されており、現在は誰でも無料で見学できる登録有形文化財として公開されています。
通りに面した格子戸から中に入ると、奥行きのある「通り庭（土間）」が広がり、二十四節気に合わせてしつらえが替わる美しい和室、そして四季折々の表情を見せる趣深い中庭や奥庭を楽しむことができます。当時の贅を尽くした建築の工夫や、光と風を巧みに取り入れる日本の暮らしの知恵が息づいており、訪れるだけでどこか懐かしく、心がほっと落ち着く豊かな時間が流れる贅沢な空間です。

Naramachi Nigiwai-no-Ie is a beautifully preserved, traditional Machiya (townhouse) built in 1917, nestled within the historic district of Naramachi in Nara City. Designated as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property, this centennial structure was originally the private residence and shop of a prominent art dealer and is now open to the public free of charge. Upon passing through the wooden lattice doors, visitors are welcomed by a long earthen hallway (Tori-niwa) that leads to elegant tatami rooms arranged with seasonal decor following the traditional 24 solar terms. The house features gorgeous inner and rear gardens designed to filter natural light and gentle breezes, showcasing the architectural ingenuity and spatial aesthetics of traditional Japanese living. It stands as a tranquil sanctuary where one can deeply connect with the nostalgia and timeless elegance of Nara’s cultural heritage.
