A former primary school that closed its doors in 2003 has been vibrantly reborn. Once filled with the laughter of students, it is now a bustling hub for creators—featuring woodworking, glass art, and paper crafts, alongside traditional regional straw weaving.
Visitors can enjoy a quiet moment at the cafe or soba restaurant, and immerse themselves in art at the gallery. Just as it was in the past, this place is once again alive with people and creativity, breathing new life into the historic halls.

Today, I explored with just a single lens: the Carl Zeiss Milvus 50mm. When shot wide open, the natural vignetting—the slight fall-off of light at the edges—adds a profound depth and atmosphere to the frame. In a place like this, where light and shadow are so clearly defined, the lens truly shines.
Visiting this nostalgic old schoolhouse as an adult feels remarkably fresh. It’s a strange, beautiful sensation to rediscover these childhood spaces through a mature lens.

The atmosphere here is filled with a gentle warmth. I found myself drawn to angles that emphasize perspective, letting the lines of the old schoolhouse lead the eye deep into the frame.

You can even step inside the classrooms. It truly is the primary school of my memories—a scene so nostalgic that I never tire of capturing it, no matter how many shots I take.

It seems that scribbling is encouraged here. A rare sense of freedom that invites everyone to leave a little piece of their story behind.

A hallway this narrow and long is a rare find. It’s the perfect composition to emphasize a sense of depth. Even wide open, this lens remains incredibly sharp and crisp.

Inside the school, you’ll find a cafe called “Nekopan” (Cat Bread). They serve incredibly delicious bagels and dishes prepared with freshly harvested organic vegetables. Eating at the old school desks adds a playful, nostalgic touch to the experience—it’s like being a student all over again.

No matter where I point my camera, the uneven hues and textures of the aged wood are stunning. The Milvus 50mm is a heavy lens, but the images it produces are breathtaking. It’s a mysterious piece of glass that can capture both modern clarity and a sense of nostalgia at the same time.

If you find photographing abandoned schools a bit lonely or melancholic, I highly recommend this place. The rustic, weathered atmosphere has been beautifully reimagined with a modern touch, making it a truly joyful location for photography.
