Shin-yakushiji Temple: The Twelve Heavenly Guardians of Ancient Nara

Snap, Photography, , , , ,

Founded in the 8th century by Empress Komyo, Shin-yakushiji Temple is a hidden architectural treasure of Nara. Within its National Treasure main hall, the Yakushi Nyorai Buddha is encircled by the Twelve Heavenly Guardians (Juni Shinsho)—fierce, clay-sculpted protectors with hauntingly expressive eyes. My photography focuses on the spiritual intensity of these ancient masterpieces, capturing the play of light and shadow that brings their thousand-year-old spirits to life. It is a place of profound healing and timeless strength.
